Nigerian side Edo Queens defeated Ainonvi FC of the Republic of Benin 3-0 in the final match of the 2024 West African Football Union (WAFU) B TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League. The game was played on Friday August 23.
The final game which was played at the Stade de La Paix de Bouake, Cote d’Ivoire, saw the Edo Queens securing the title thanks to three first-half goals. This feat has earned them the right to represent WAFU B in the continental championship.
It was two goals from Suliat Abideen and Emem Essien which were then followed by an own goal by Elizabeth Ukandu for the Nigerian champions as they delighted their fans and sponsors in their first major international competition. The Queens are sponsored by the Edo State Government.
The 2024 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League is billed to take place later this year.
