Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum has sent has letter of resignation to the Nigeria Football Federation. He says it’s due to personal reasons.
Waldrum detailed in his letter that his wife has been struggling with health issues which has forced his decision to quit his role with the Falcons to take care of her.
The American took over as the Super Falcons job in 2020 after Thomas Dennerby left following a run of poor results. His first assignment saw him lead the Falcons to a fourth-place finish at the 2022 edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations which was held in Morocco.
That performance brought calls for his immediate sack but the Nigeria Football Federation officials stood their ground and he eventually picked up the pace as he led the Falcons to the Round of 16 finishing at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. This time he received praises from the Nigerian public for an impressive outing.
His last competition took a dip at the 2024 Paris Olympics where he failed to take the Super Falcons out of the group stage.
