150 local and foreign players set for Lekki Scrabble Classics

A massive hunt for prizes totaling about N4.5m will begin this Saturday as 150 players engage each other at the 2024 Lekki Scrabble Classics.

Jammers including top board strategies from Ghana, Uganda as well as Nigerians with a mix of Diasporas in Ireland, United States, the United Kingdom and Canada are already in the Lekki Peninsula for the two-day tournament.

African Champion Enoch Nwali who also holds the LSC title will have West Africa powerhouse Timilehin Doko, African Games side-event champion John Ayedun, African Games double gold-medallist Adebisi Adekansi, freshly crowned Amazon Queen Bukunmi Afolayan and other elite players to contend with in Division A.

In Division B, players from 0 to 1299 will have the opportunity of making hay at two different levels.

Vice President of the Lekki Scrabble Club Charles Uzamere who is excited at the huge status the Classics have attained described the enthusiasm generated by the tournament as amazing.

“The enthusiasm for this year’s Classics has been amazing. We have 150 players registered but I can tell you that the portal for registration almost crashed due to the huge numbers of players on the system for this event. The expectations are very high with over N4m in prize-money which is indeed is a record. A lot of players are looking forward to this both professionals and non-professionals. My expectation is that the young one will pull it off.

“We have celebrities who will be around for the tournament. Overall, the Lekki Scrabble Classics for this year will be the centre of attraction this weekend.”

Loense International, Front-page Couture, Midasfarms, MGi, Elcrest E&P, Ayodele Thomas Consulting, Julyet Peters and AGPC gave their blessings to this edition while Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) will provide technical support.

The 150 players who got their tickets punched to be at the glorious gathering will play 18 rounds of games before the winners will emerge.
