The Nigeria Football Federation has assured Nigerians and in particular the Federation Government that the 2026 World Cup ticket is still within reach and they would do all that is possible for the Super Eagles to grab one.

The promise was given as a part of the decisions and agreement reached at the 2024 Congress held in Asaba today, Friday.

The Communiqué reads, “The Congress acknowledged the Federal Government’s expectation for the Super Eagles qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Congress assured the government of its commitment to ensuring that necessary preparations are made to meet these objectives while urging the Executive Committee of the NFF to prioritize decisions that will further develop Nigeria football.”

It is a very long shot for the Nigerians who are yet to win any game in the qualifiers. The Eagles are fifth on the Group C table trailing far behind Rwanda, South Africa Benin Republic, and even Lesotho.

Nigeria failed to qualify for the last World Cup in Qatar.

The Congress endorsed the quest of Nigeria’s FIFA Council Member, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick, to retain his seat on the FIFA Council – the supreme governing organ for football globally. The former NFF President will be going for a second term.

The meeting also approved the NFF’s Financial Statements for the Year ended 2023 while also accepting the 2025 budget proposal presented by the NFF Executive Board.

“The Congress also approved the NFF’s 2025 budget proposal amounting to the sum of N17.6 billion,” the Communiqué added.
