Ardova Handball Premier League Phase Two holds November in Lagos

The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) has announced that the second phase of the Ardova Handball Premier League 2024 will hold from November 26th to December 9th in Lagos.

Secretary General of the HFN, Mr. Almu Umar Lambu, who confirmed the date in a letter to the clubs on Saturday, said the arrival date for the top tier league is Tuesday, November 26 while matches commence the next day.

Lambu also advised that the 22 participating teams should begin their players’ registration ahead of the start off date.

The letter reads, “The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) is pleased to inform you that the 2nd Phase of 2024 Ardova Handball Premier League will take place from 26th November-9th December, 2024 in Lagos, Lagos State.

“The participating teams are advised to begin their players’ registration in earnest and must make all necessary arrangements to plan their arrival and departure within the period mentioned above.”

The Ardova League is top tier handball league and the biggest handball competition in the country which comprises 22 teams (12 men and 10 women’s teams). It is in two phases with first phase holding around May 2024 in Benin City, Edo State while the upcoming second phase is in Lagos wherein the league winners in the two categories will be unveiled.

Tojemarine Academy of Lagos, who finished second in the 2023 league season, are the current league leaders after finishing the first phase in with 33 points with Rima Strikers of Sokoto in second and defending champions Niger United in third position in the men’s category. Tojemarine Academy has a lot to do in the second phase of the league against the likes of Niger United, Rima Strikers and even former champions Kano Pillars.

In the women’s event, defending champion Safety Babes, who were last defeated in the Ardova Handball Premier League in 2022, is leading the park with 27 points; three points ahead of Defender Babes.

There is still all to play for as Safety Babes will make history as the first team to win the league in an unprecedented fourth time in the women category while Tojemarine Academy are determined to win the league for the first time in their history.
