MFM retains Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League title

The Mountain of Fire Ministry (MFM) Women have stamped their feet strongly in the Nigerian basketball scene by, again, winning the 2024 Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League. MFM achieved the feat by defeating the Nigeria Customs team 64-53 in a thriller of a game played on Tuesday at the National Stadium in Lagos. It is a back-to-back title triumph for MFM.

Customs coach Abdulrahman Mohammed the game was lost in the first quarter.

“The first five minutes made the difference. You don’t allow a very fit opponent to take such lead then play the catch up.”

Both teams have picked the tickets to the African championship just like last year. The continental games will start by the end of October with the FIBA Africa Zone 3 qualifiers in Liberia.

The game was the last for the Final-8 playoffs that began in Lagos last week. The league started off with Conference games in August in the Atlantic and Savannah.

Former champions First Bank beat Royal Aces 46-45 in the third-place match.
