Kano Pillars showcased such a stunning performance in Enugu on Wednesday, beating champions Rangers 4-3 in a standout encounter in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Visiting Pillars began their scoring spree in the 18th minute of the first half of the game. Rabiu Ali opened the scoring from the spot after a Rangers defender handled Ahmed Musa’s cross. He would another penalty kick in the 41st minute after Zulkifilu Muhammed had doubled Pillars’ lead in the 28th minute, with a Musa assist.
Musa made it 4-0 just before the break with a solo run dribbling past four Rangers defenders. That was his third goal of the season and in three matches.
The Fidelis Ikechukwu tutored boys, however, were determined in the second half of the game by reducing the tally by three goals.
Isaac Saviour scored twice in the 46th and 59th minutes to reduce the deficit.
Further efforts to equalise proved abortive as the centre referee’s whistle signaled the end of the game at 4-3 amid a heavy downpour at the Enugu stadium.
Pillars head coach, Usman Abdala, received a red card from the centre referee for challenging her decision in the second half of the game.
