“Such move became one of the highlights of my administration and we made it the conscious efforts in ensuring that sports and youth development received the utmost attention. This was evident in the landmark Gateway Games, Gateway Tertiary Institution Games (GATIG), the hosting of the FIFA Junior World Cup and many more.
“All these were possible through concerted efforts and initiatives of which Chief Bukola Olopade as the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development played a great part.
“It is therefore with great delight that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has decided to appoint him as the Director General of the National Sports Commission.
“I am confident that he will right all the wrongs in our nation’s sports affairs and provide the needed leadership for Nigerians to compete in all competitions delightedly, bringing pride and victory to us all.”
In related development, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, congratulated Olopade on his appointment. And the perfect professional synergy planned out by Tinubu, to give Nigerian sports a solid rebirth.
Diri added, “Let me congratulate my friend and brother, Mr. Bukola Olawale Olopade, former Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Ogun State on his appointment by President Bola Tinubu, as Director-General, National Sports Commission.
“No doubt, Mr. Olopade and the Chairman, National Sports Commission (NSC) Mr. Shehu Dikko, are both seasoned sports administrators in the country and these two appointments should signal a rebirth and revival of sports development across the country.
“I encourage the duo to work closely with various State Governments in the discovery of young talents, nurture them and make right investments to prepare them for future national and international competitions.
“Indeed, this country is blessed with talents in different sports.
“I wish Dikko and Olopade, the best in this task of returning Nigeria’s sports to the glory days.”
