It was a great comeback for the team beating South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies with two late goals to make it 2-1 in their final group game on Saturday.
The 2023/24 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) champions scored two goals after 90 minutes of the intense game at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, Morocco. They were down 1-0 until just minutes left in the game.
The Nigerian Queens needed a win from this encounter to qualify out of Group B. Despite their emphatic 3-0 win over Commercial Bank of Ethiopia in their first game, a goalless draw against Egypt’s FC Masar in their second game put the Queens in a very tight position.
The South Africans scored as early as the 24th minute through Melinda Ngadiete followed by many misses including a penalty by Edo Queens.
Edo Queens will face highly rated TP Mazembe Ladies in the semi-final on Tuesday.
