Pius Ayinor
The Super Eagles camp and training session on Saturday witnessed some changes with defender Ola Aina now completely out of the team to face Rwanda.
Aina has returned to England on the request of his club, Nottingham Forest. The Premier League side made a plea to Coach Austin Eguavoen for the player’s release. Forest officials said he is needed early at their training ground for their big game against Arsenal since Nigeria’s ticket to the 2025 AFCON final tournament has been secured.
Hit man and rave of the year, Ademola Lookman was also excused from Saturday’s training session after suffering a knock in Thursday’s game against the Republic of Benin. He is expected fit and ready before the match.
Stanley Nwabali was the first to be excused from the team as he got a compassionate leave to attend to family matters in the aftermath of his father’s demise.
Nwabali’s absence means the contest for the number one jersey in Monday’s encounter at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium will be a straight one between Italy-based Maduka Okoye and Ethiopia-based Amas Obasogie.
