●Three players added to the team
Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers have started their training at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
D’Tigers who are preparing for the 2025 Men’s Afrobasket Qualifiers in Libya had their first training session on Tuesday under Coach Abdulrahman Mohammed.
These home-based players will be in Abuja until the 16th before flying to Tripoli, Libya where they will be joined by the 13 foreign-based players also invited. It is not certain how many of the players would travel from Nigeria.
Three new faces have been added to the Abuja roster by the Nigeria Basketball Federation. They’re Favour Aboje of the Nile University team, Israel Philip from the Nigeria Customs and Rivers Hoopers Johnson Anaye.
A former D’Tigers shooting guard, Stanley Gumut, said, the inclusion of Favour Aboje, is a plus to the team.
Gumut, a 2011 Afrobasket bronze medallist has this to say about Aboje. “He deserves it; he is one of the many talents in the domestic league.”
The trio were called up to fill the void left by the absence of River’s duo of Michael Okiki and Patrick Abah as well as Azeez Sulaimon of Hoops N’ Read.
We gathered that the players could not make it to the Abuja camp of D’Tigers due to various reasons ranging from academics to personal.
