Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, booked a place for the 2025 Afrobasket in Angola after a superb 77-62 victory over Cape Verde in their final Group B qualifier played on Sunday, Extrasportscom.wordpress.com reports.
As with the first two matches against Libya and Uganda, D’Tigers started slowly trailing the Islanders. Cape Verde won the first quarter 26-22. However, Nigeria bounced back with an impressive 26-7 run in the second quarter, taking a 15-point lead into the break. Cape Verde won the third quarter 21-13, but again D’Tigers came back strong, taking a 16-8 advantage that eventually game them the win.
D’Tigers’ Caleb Agada was the big hit of the game, leading with 29 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
This victory confirmed Nigeria’s qualification for the 2025 Afrobasket which will be held in Luanda, Angola this July. D’Tigers had also beaten Libya 75-70 and Uganda 87-67 in their first two matches.
D’Tigers had lost all their matches to these same teams in the First Window. The result from that outing had put fears in the hearts of the Tigers supporters but they returned to Libya with a much stronger team to win all their games in the Second Window.
