Super Eagles Chelle, Osimhen and Bankole hit Kigali early

Pius Ayinor

Super Eagles Coach Eric Sekou Chelle on Sunday led two of the home-based players, Remo Stars goalkeeper,  Kayode Bankole and Niger Tornadoes midfielder, Papa Daniel into Kigali. They have since been joined Monday morning by Victor Osimhen and other players based in Europe and elsewhere.

The team’s Radisson Blu Hotel in Kigali is expected to be full or almost full by sunset when virtually all the 23 invited players would have arrived in Kigali ahead of Friday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.

The other early birds expected include Bruno Onyemaechi, Amas Obasogie and new invitee Tolu Arokodare.

The match against Rwanda is set for the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali before they fly back home to face Zimbabwe next Tuesday in Uyo.

The Eagles currently sit fifth in Group C with just three points from four matches, making consecutive victories essential to boost their chances of reaching the tournament co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
