Former Houston Cougars and Houston Rockets Player Hakeem Olajuwon got a shock during the men’s NCAA Final Four semifinal college basketball game in San Antonio, Saturday, April 5, 2025, according to a report by mysanantonio.com. He was denied access to the court by the security team.
Some San Antonio folks must still be ticked off from the time “The Dream” embarrassed “The Admiral” during his 1995 MVP ceremony. Despite a historic Final Four win by the University of Houston Cougars on Saturday, April 5, security was not about to let NBA Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon set foot on the Alamodome court.
The former home of the Silver & Black turned Cougar Red after UH came from down 14 points to upset the Duke Blue Devils in the Final Four and advance to their first men’s basketball national championship game in 41 years. The last time Houston had reached such a stage, Olajuwon was slamming down dunks as the chairman of Phi Slamma Jamma. Sitting courtside Saturday and thrilled by the win, Olajuwon tried to celebrate with his Alma Mata but Alamodome security wouldn’t let him on the court.
A video shared across social media showed Olajuwon trying to step onto the court following the 70-67 win, but officials would not let him pass. The moment, reminiscent of when Toronto Raptors President Masai Ujiri wasn’t permitted to celebrate his team winning the 2019 NBA Finals, showed that San Antonians are still salty over The Dream’s success.
