Gospel singer Osinachi’s husband guilty, sentenced to death

The husband of the late gospel singer, Osinachi, Peter Nwachukwu, has been found guilty of culpable homicide resulting in the death of the singer on April 8, 2022.

Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), sitting at Wuse Zone 2, found Nwachukwu guilty while delivering judgment in the trial of the husband.

The Federal Government arraigned the defendant on a 23-count charge bordering on culpable homicide punishable with death, criminal intimidation, cruelty to children, criminal intimidation of children, spousal battery, among others.

Nwachukwu has been sentenced to death by hanging.

Nwachukwu was first arraigned on June 3, 2022, by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF) on behalf of the Federal Government.

During the trial, the prosecution called 17 witnesses, including two of the couple’s children who appeared as the fourth and fifth prosecution witnesses.

A total of 25 documents were also tendered in court to support the case.

In his defence, Nwachukwu testified personally and called four other witnesses, presenting four exhibits to back his claims.

Before sentencing, Nwachukwu’s lawyer, Reginald Nwali, begged the court for leniency.

However, the prosecuting counsel, Mrs. Aderonke Imala, urged the court to uphold the law without compromise.

Justice Nwosu-Iheme thereafter sentenced Nwachukwu to death by hanging on Count 1.

He also received two years imprisonment each on Counts 2, 3, 8, 9, 12, 13, and 18.

For Count 10, he was handed six months imprisonment, and three years imprisonment on Count 11.

Additionally, the court imposed fines of N500,000 and N200,000 on Counts 6 and 7 respectively.
