World Cup ticket: University don hails Flying Eagles

An Associate Professor at the Kwara State University, Malete and as well as a seasoned football analyst, Dr Ibrahim Salawu has praised the Flying Eagles of Nigeria for clinching one of the four tickets available to the U20 World Cup in Chile.

Salawu, who is an expert in Politics and Governance, said that the players and their coaches must not toy with the qualification alone. They must strive to make a bold statement by winning the semi-final and eventually lift the AFCON trophy.

He commended the technical crew led by Coaches Aliyu Zubair and his assistants Lukeman Ijaiya and Caleb Esu for their high level technical knowledge that helped them to overcome the well trained attackers from Senegal.

Salawu who is also a public commentator described the victory against Senegal as a “breakthrough to plan well in advance and build a virile squad” that will repeat what Nigeria did in Chile with the U17 team lifting the World Cup in 2015 with Emmanuel Amunike as the coach.

The university scholar is excited that the team has made all Nigerians proud by eliminating the defending champions.

Nigeria won the U20 AFCON seven times in 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2005 and were runners-up twice.
