The National Sports Commission, the Kwara State Governor and Super Eagles stars have rallied around Nottingham Forest star, Taiwo Awoniyi with prayers following his emergency abdominal surgery. The NSC made a press release while his football colleagues are using the social media to show support.
Awoniyi who got injured in an English Premier League match against Leicester City on Sunday was put into induced coma after undergoing the first phase of a surgery on Monday.
The Nigerian did not start, but he was introduced as a late substitute, when Forest pushed hard for a winner. Awoniyi had a bad collision with the upright while trying to connect with a cross.
The Nottingham Forest’s medical team checked him, but gave him the approval to continue the match but soon asked to leave the game, when the pain became unbearable. On Tuesday he had his first surgery and was expected to go through another on Wednesday.
Galatasaray and Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen shared a picture of Awoniyi on Instagram and wrote, “Prayers up for you brother. God will never leave you.”
The Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade offered prayers for Awoniyi’s full and swift recovery, affirming that the entire nation stands united in support of him.
“On behalf of the National Sports Commission and all Nigerians, we are praying fervently for Taiwo. We trust that he will recover fully and return stronger than ever. He deserves the best in life, and we are confident that this setback will only be a stepping stone to even greater achievements,” he said.
Ahmed Musa shared a picture of Awoniyi and wrote, “Get well soon baller.”
Super Falcons star Rasheedat Ajibade, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, Kenneth Omeruo, Chidera Ejuke, have also weighed in.
Rasheedat prayed, “Our hearts are heavy as we hold Taiwo Awoniyi in our prayers. Just days ago, he shared his light and strength with us on the Rash 4 Christ podcast. Now, as he fights in this difficult moment, we stand with him and his family in faith and hope.
“God is with you, Taiwo. You’re not alone.
“Please say a prayer for Taiwo Awoniyi and his family.”
