Taiwo Awoniyi out of induced coma and recovering well

Nottingham Forest and Nigeria star Taiwo Awoniyi is out of his induced coma and is recovering well. The forward underwent emergency surgery to help recover from an abdominal injury he sustained after a sickening collision with a post against Leicester City on Sunday.

The Nigerian had a procedure on Monday night, but his condition wasn’t thought to be life threatening and he was placed into a coma to help restrict his movement and regulate his heart rate, Extrasportnigeria.wordpress.com reports.

The reports from England now confirm that the second part of the procedure was completed on Wednesday, with Awoniyi’s condition being monitored in hospital. He is awake after the surgery and is recovering with his family.

Players from across the globe sent prayers and solidarity with the injured Nigerian.

Super Falcons star Rasheedat Ajibade, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, Kenneth Omeruo, Chidera Ejuke. All reached out.

Rasheedat prayed, “Our hearts are heavy as we hold Taiwo Awoniyi in our prayers. Just days ago, he shared his light and strength with us on the Rash 4 Christ podcast. Now, as he fights in this difficult moment, we stand with him and his family in faith and hope.

“God is with you, Taiwo. You’re not alone.

“Please say a prayer for Taiwo Awoniyi and his family.”

Forest issued an angry statement on Monday in which they claimed that the seriousness of Awoniyi’s injury proved why owner Evangelos Marinakis stormed on to the pitch after the match. They took aim at the “fake news” which suggested he confronted boss Nuno Espirito Santo after two dropped points against the Foxes.
