Super Eagles: Getafe’s Uche and Obasogie in visa challenges

Christantus Uche is believed to still remain a part of Coach Eric Chelle’s plans for the Super Eagles’ games in London and Russia. The midfielder had serious visa issues like goalkeeper Amas Obasogie which kept both players out of the Nigerian camp ahead of the match against Ghana.

Obasogie, the Tanzanian-based goalkeeper, will still not be available for the match against Jamaica. The former Bendel Insurance keeper also faced difficulties obtaining a UK visa and will now join the Eagles in Moscow ahead of the friendly against Russia.

Chelle will have only two goalkeepers for Saturday’s showdown Saturday’s game against Jamaica – Stanley Nwabali of Chippa United and Maduka Okoye of Udinese.

Uche, 22, enjoyed a good season in La Liga with Getafe, and this caught the attention of Chelle. The midfielder was named in the squad for both the Unity Cup and the friendly against Russia but missed out of the semi final match against eternal rivals the Black Stars of Ghana which the Eagles won 2-1 on Wednesday.

Unlike Obasogie, Uche is expected to join the team in London before Saturday’s Unity Cup final.

The Super Eagles are rated above the Reggae Boyz but it is a close for analysts until they are able to determine which the bigger team is until they settle it on the field of play.
