Ogbe Senior Secondary School visits Patroness, Sports Director, Chikere

Ogbe Senior Secondary School, Benin on Friday paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Director, Sports Development and Operations, Edo State Sports Commission, Mrs. Sabina Chikere, at her office in Benin City.

The delegation led by their Principal of Ogbe Senior Secondary School, Mrs. Augustina Itohanmwen, paid the visit to appreciate Chikere for her continued support and contribution to the school in their inter-house sports as the Patroness of Blue House.

The school sports team accompanied by the Head of Sports, Mr. Harrison Ogwu, alongside some staff and the captain of the school football team also thanked Chikere for her full participation in the school’s sporting activities, presenting her with trophies recently won by Ogbe football team.

Ogbe Senior Secondary School recently won two state football tournaments: The Edo State Principal Cup and the Governors Cup.

Chikere, expressed delight on the brand new Toyota Hiace bus donated to the school by the state Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo for their outstanding performance in the state events.

She said the Governor, through the Edo State Sports Commission will continue to support grassroots sports.

“I’m very excited and I’m happy that the hard work of the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, is paying off, we will try our best to do as much as we can, to encourage our young stars.”

Chikere explained that the Sports Commission under the leadership of Honourable Desmond Amadin Enabulele, strongly believes that education plays a key role in the life of a sportsperson, and is combining talent with education is the Heartbeat of the Nation.

“We’re combining sports and education, because the life of a sportsman is short, so by the time you are no longer active in sports, with your education you’ll something to fall back into,” she said.

Mrs. Augustina Itohanmwen, had some delightful words for Mrs Chikere, who has been a fortress for sports in the school.

“When I came to this school, one of the persons that came through for us in the area of sports is Mrs Sabina Chikere, Executive Director, Sports Development and Operations, Edo State Sports Commission,” she narrated.

 “When we wanted to host an Inter-house sports she came to our aid, even suggesting we naming some VIP’s as Patrons of different Houses, and we made her Patroness of Blue House.

“What shocked me about her was that I just saw a message from our Head of Sports, Mr. Harrison, that Mrs. Chikere sent her support package and I said wow.

 “And then she stayed all through the day, encouraging and motivating the kids. Your support means a lot to us, we see you as a mentor and personally as my sister, Thank you,” she concluded.
