The Super Falcons beat rivals Ghana 3-1 in an international friendly match on Sunday. The game played in Morocco, venue of the Women’s African Nations Cup, gives a hint of the state of the nine-time winners of the continental trophy.
It is two wins and a draw pre-WAFCON report card for the Falcons with a week to kickoff of the African women’s cup. They defeated Cameroon 2-0 in Abeokuta this month and Ghana 3-1 as well as a 0-0 draw with Portugal in Lisbon last week.
On Sunday in Morocco, Chiwendu Ihezuo opened scoring for the Nigerian queens after 34 minutes, when the shot of the Mexico-based striker took a big deflection. The USA-based Asisat Oshoala added the next via a penalty.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade made 3-0 for the Nigerian ladies 51 minutes into the game but the Black Queens refused to let go and were able to pull a goal back on 88 minutes from the penalty spot scored by Alice Kusi.
The Ghanaians goal seemed to have touched the nerves of the Super Falcons as they pressed for another goal but the Black Queens refused to give in until the final whistle.
