Nigeria’s U19 women’s basketballers depart for World Championship in Czech Republic

Nigeria’s U19 women’s team (D’Tigress Junior) flew out of the country from Abuja on Tuesday for the FIBA U19 World Championship billed for Brno, the Czech Republic.

The Nigeria Basketball Federation confirmed the details of the trip including a release of the team roster as they prepared to fly out.

The 12 players headed for Europe are led by Coach Juliana Akhere. She will be assisted by Nyingifa Atonye and Usuwa Chinedu Stone.

The players are Jessica Ajayi, Beggi Pius Idubamo, Wandoo Marvis Hembam, Gbemisola Samuel, Toby Nweke and Momoluwa Tewogbade.

The others are Nora Ezike, Francisca Chukwu, Olanrewaju Ayodeji, Abigail Isaac, Olaoluwa O. Victoria and Favour Sampson.

The competition is tipping off on July 12 and running until July 20. It is the 16th edition of the competition that was inaugurated in 1985 and has the USA ladies as defending champions.

Nigeria’s opening match is on Saturday against China.
