Ogbonda renews Rangers contract, eyes league title as Oloruntoba joins from Lobi Stars

Utility player, Evans Ogbonda, has extended his stay with eight-time Nigeria league champions, Rangers FC, signing a new two-year contract that will keep him at the Coal City side until the end of the 2026/2027 football season.

The deal was finalized on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the club’s corporate office in Enugu, with General Manager/CEO, Amobi Ezeaku and Administrative Secretary, Barrister Alex Egbo, present.

Ogbonda, a Rivers-born footballer, expressed his delight and commitment to the club.

 “Rangers remain the biggest club in the country despite what happened last season,” Ogbonda said.

“I am remaining here to help push for the realization of our collective target in the coming season. Enugu people have shown me love and I won’t turn my back on them because we went through a little bad patch in our chase last season. Rangers shall return to its rightful position by the end of next season.”

Rangers CEO, Amobi lauded Ogbonda’s professionalism and voiced confidence in the club’s prospects for the upcoming season.

“Evans has displayed a high level of professionalism. I believe that we shall have a much better 2025/2026 season. The coaches and scouting team have done marvelously in their recruitment drive and with what we have on the ground; I strongly believe that we shall get back the trophy at the end of the season.”

Rangers also made a seperate significant move in their squad rebuild, successfully signing former Lobi Stars FC winger, Oluwasegun Oloruntoba.

This acquisition is said to signal the Flying Antelopes’ intent to challenge on all fronts in the fast-approaching 2025/2026 football season.

Oloruntoba, who recently concluded negotiations with the Enugu-based club, is expected to be officially unveiled soon alongside other new recruits who have committed their futures to the team.

The contract signing session, held at the club’s corporate office in Enugu, saw a visibly delighted Oloruntoba express his excitement.

The left-footed, 5’8″ pacy winger, who penned a two-year deal for Rangers was a prominent figure in Lobi Stars’ battle to avoid relegation last season, described his move to Rangers as a dream come true.

“This is a dream come true for me in my career. Rangers is a big club and I promise to be at my best to ensure we get our targets for the season,” stated Oloruntoba.
