Babcock University student hangs self at RCCG Redemption Camp

A 400-level Computer Science student of Babcock University has reportedly taken his own life. The young man identified by relatives as Olaoluwa Subomi Lawson hung himself at his father’s residence in Redemption Camp City, Ogun State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident was formally reported on Tuesday by a relative, who resides in Festac Town, Lagos.

It was also disclosed that the family received distressing information from Olaoluwa’s mother, Olufunke Lawson, who lives in the United Kingdom.

She informed the family that her son had taken his life by hanging himself inside his room.

More reports from FTN confirmed that Lawson was suspended for a year by the Babcock University management for examination malpractice. His classmates aar  scheduled to graduate on July 27, 2025.

The Director of Communication and Marketing of the university, Dr Joshua Suleiman, reportedly confirmed the sad incident. He explained that the deceased faced the university disciplinary committee for examination malpractice; and was found guilty and this attracted the one-year academic suspension.

Suleiman said Lawson had not even collected his suspension letter before he took his life, adding that it was suspected that he got wind of the suspension.

“The school is aware of the tragic incident. He was a 400-level Computer Science student. He faced the university disciplinary committee for examination malpractice; he was found guilty and handed a one-year academic suspension.

“He has not even come for his suspension letter, maybe he got to know about the suspension. But we don’t know whatever happened thereafter, we only heard that the student took his life,” Suleiman was quoted as saying.
