Bauchi State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Hon. Adamu Babayo Gabarin, has said that Wikki Tourists are poised to compete in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) permanently going forward. The state-owned football club returned to Nigeria’s top flight league on Thursday after a thunderous 4-0 victory over Yobe Desert Stars in Asaba where the NNL Super 8 playoff (Nigeria National League) is rounding off on Saturday.

Wikki Tourists cand Barau FC of Kano got the promotion tickets of the Northern Conference.

Gabarin who spoke with reporters excitedly at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba moments after the Wikki victory said they had learned their lesson after several droppings and promotions of the team over the decades. He described their return to Nigeria’s top-tier league as well-deserved.

He said, “Sincerely, we have learned from the past and it is not going to be as it was in the past. The setting is different as you could notice that the team has been very consistent over a long period now. We are staying in the NPFL this time.”

The Commissioner hailed the coach and his players for staying focused and achieving the ultimate goal. He noted that the steady support of the government and the people of Bauchi made the return journey to the NPFL achievable. He then pledged the financial support from the state government in their NPFL campaign next season.

“On behalf of the government and people of Bauchi State, I want to congratulate Coach Abdul Maikaba and his players for doing the state proud. You know that the NPFL is where the team rightly belongs and coming back is worth celebrating.”

“The government is going to rebrand the team and soon come out with some measures that will ensure the pride of Bauchi consolidates its stay in the NPFL. With the team now back in the elite league where it rightly belongs, I want to assure you that the era of not staying long in the NPFL will be a thing of the past.”
