NNL: Warri Wolves crowned 2024/25 champions

Warri Wolves have emerged champions of the 2024/25 Nigeria National League season, Extrasportnigeria.wordpress.com reports. They defeated Wikki Tourists 3-2 in the final game of the Super 8 playoffs at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Saturday.

The Delta State team started the match in a bright style and quickly went up 3-0 after just 25 minutes. Yusuf Abdullateef gave Warri Wolves the first goal in the seventh minute while Abdullateef giving an assist to Igbunu Evwierhurhoma for the second goal in the 17thh minute. The third did not come as a surprise through Joshua Shemaye’s in the 25th minute.

The Wikki bench galvanized their making strong spirited fight back as the match pressure swung against Wolves.

The Wikki Tourist pressure soon paid off as Mamuda Aliyu reduced the deficit about 10 minutes before the break. When the game resumed after the break Wikki pressure continued and they recovered another goal through Wonderson Yakubu in the 59th minute.

Warri Wolves soon recovered as both sides searched for one goal. Opportunities were created but the goal never came until the final whistle.

The Wikki Tourists supporters invaded the pitch immediately after this whistle in an effort to beat up the referee. Their violent reaction delayed the medals and trophy presentations. It took a while before the situation was brought under control.
