WAFCON: Super Falcons hammer Zambia 5-0 to reach semi-finals

‎The Super Falcons of Nigeria hit the semi-final stage of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a rampart 5-0 win over Zambia in Casablanca, on Friday.

The first half goal came within two minutes from Osinachi Ohale, and then Esther Okoronkwo, and Chinwendu Ihezuo added two more for Nigeria. Oluwatosin Demehin and Folashade Ijamilusi scored the other goals that completed the five-star win against a team that got so much good previews against the Falcons.

‎The Zambians won their third place match 1-0 at WAFCON 2022 in Morocco. That win three years ago made analyst to tip the Copper Queens to challenge the nine-time champions, but it turned out virtually a one-way traffic as the Super Falcons put on a ruthless coordination of power and precision.

‎ The Zambia star strikers Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji — each with three goals in the group stage — were kept completely quiet, failing to register a single shot on target on this Friday night to remember in Casablanca for Nigerians.

Nigeria remains the only team yet to concede a goal at the tournament. The victory has also continued the Super Falcons’ impressive record of reaching the semi-final stage of every WAFCON tournament.

Unsurprisingly, Nigeria’s captain Rasheedat Ajibade was named the Woman of the Match, after overseeing the annihilation of a squad that thought they were the new continental order.

They will now face either defending champions South Africa or Senegal in Tuesday’s semi-final.
