Paul Onuachu of Trabzonspor is out on the sideline following the ankle injury he sustained during a pre-season friendly. He got the injury in a warm-up match against Azerbaijani side Araz Nakhchivan.
The Nigerian attacker recently joined the Turkish side moving in from Southampton on a permanent deal after a year-long push for Trabzonspor.
The statement released by Trabzonspor’s medical team led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Beşir, head of the club’s health board, confirmed the development.
“Due to the impact, intense edema was detected in Onuachu’s left ankle bones and partial injury to his ankle ligaments. Our medical team has begun treatment.”
Onuachu was the top finisher for Southampton last season in the Premier League all through their relegation battle which they lost.
Onuachu had been expected to be an instant hit again on his return to the Turkish top flight. Onuachu is said to have rejected a number of European clubs, including Rennes, to get back on Trabzonspor roster.
His fresh injury now threatens to keep him out of the club’s opening fixtures. These fixtures include a curtain-raiser against newly-promoted Kocaelispor on August 11, followed by matches against Kasimpasa, Antalyaspor, and Samsunspor.
