The Nigeria Basketball Federation has invited fans of the women’s national team, D’Tigress, to their training session on Sunday in Abuja. The open invitation to Nigerians who care to watch the team at the Mo Arena is a makeup arrangement in lieu of the Homing Tournament which failed to hold in the Federal Capital Territory this weekend.
The NBBF released a terse message on Saturday Nigerians for their understanding over the botched tournament and extending the invitation to the general public to step in watch the African champions train. The back-to-back champions were billed to play against Kenya and Togo in the Abuja designed basically to give Nigerians a live view of D’Tigress who have not lost a single game to any African team since 2017.
The NBBF had announced that the Homing Tournament would be held between July 19 and 21.
The NBBF statement reads, “We sincerely thank our loyal D’Tigress fans, sponsors, and officials who have stood with us during this time and continue to support the team as we continue to prepare for the AfroBasket Women’s Tournament.
“we regret that were unable to welcome you to cheer for us this weekend…please join us for an open scrimmage on Sunday , July 20…”
The failure of the National Sports Commission to provide flight tickets early enough for the players until this week meant that the first set of players only arrived in Abuja on Thursday instead of June.
