President Bola Tinubu has awarded $100k, houses, and conferred national honour on the Super Falcons players following their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The President while receiving the players and the technical team at the Villa on Monday praised them for what he termed their “indomitable spirit of resilience, determination and courage.” He added that the victory couldn’t have been more historic.
The President, who had earlier received the trophy from the team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, gave each player $100k. In addition, he announced the gift of a three-bedroom flat to each person.
Tinubu said, “On behalf of the grateful nation, I hereby confer on the players and the 11-man technical team national honour of OON.
“I hereby allocate a three-bedroom apartment to each of the players and technical crew. In addition, there’s a cash award of the naira equivalence $100,000 to the 24 players and equivalence of $50,000 to the technical team. Once again, I congratulate you, and I will continue to pray for you.”
The President said he didn’t want to watch the final match between Nigeria and Morocco as he didn’t want to have high-blood pressure.
The Super Falcons accomplished a record-extending 10th Women AFCON title triumph on Saturday night, with a come-from-behind 3-2 defeat of hosts Morocco at Rabat’s Stade Olympique.
Residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and environs had a rare view of the Women Africa Cup of Nations trophy when the Super Falcons arrived in Nigeria on Monday.
