Cameroon booked a quarterfinals battle with Nigeria after defeating Angola 85-64 in a late-night match on Wednesday in Abidjan. It was a big hit for the Cameroonian ladies who had lost to Angola in their past six meets in the Afrobasket. The successful has set up a huge battle reigning African champions, D’Tigress of Nigeria.
The game between Nigeria and Cameroon is the last game of the four quarter-finals games billed for Thursday and it surely would be a high quality match.
In the earlier games of Wednesday, South Sudan, Mozambique and Senegal also got through to the quarter-finals.
South Sudan, a team that qualified for the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket on a wild card knocked out Egypt to set up a match with up and coming Ugandan women who defeated powerhouse Senegal in their group game.
Mozambique that gave the Nigerian ladies a run for their money on Tuesday landed in quarterfinal after thrashing Guinea 91-38.
Senegal as they demolished Rwanda 80-37 to set up a game against hosts Cote d’Ivoire. A large crowd of supporters expected for both sides for this match as Abidjan is home to thousands of Senegalese.
Mali and Mozambique will play the other quarter-final game.
