Burkina Faso’s Sita Siribi delivered a breathtaking performance to capture the women’s 400m title at the CAA Region II Senior Athletics Championship in Ghana.
In a dramatic finish, Siribi powered down the home straight with a late surge to edge Nigeria’s seasoned quarter miler, Patience Okon George. Siribi stopped the clock at an impressive 51.74s, securing the gold medal in front of a roaring crowd.
Nigeria’s George, a veteran and multiple-time continental medalist, had to settle for silver with 52.09s, while her compatriot, Onyah Favour, claimed the bronze in 52.54s.
But despite her loss, the aged Okon still stands out in the 400m race in Nigeria as one of the very best. There is high possibility that she makes to Tokyo next month for the World Athletics Championship.
