The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) has alerted local and international partners to the existence of a fake club called Akwa United Handball Club. HFN said the fake team is involved in advertising for foreign coaches.
The statement reads, “The attention of the Handball Federation of Nigeria has been drawn to the activities of a purported club called Akwa United Handball Club, which is said to be recruiting foreign coaches and players with claims of prosecuting and winning the second league championship.
“The HFN wishes to categorically state that Akwa United Handball Club is not known to the Federation and does not exist under its structure. Furthermore, no handball club in Nigeria is currently recruiting any foreign player or coach for participation in the two tier leagues (Ardova Handball Premier League and the National Division One League) or any other championship.
“The Federation strongly advises all foreign players, coaches, and other stakeholders to always liaise directly with the Handball Federation of Nigeria before engaging in any handball-related opportunities in the country. This is to ensure authenticity and to guard against falling victim to scammers who are out to exploit unsuspecting individuals.
“The HFN remains committed to the growth and integrity of handball in Nigeria and will not hesitate to take necessary action against individuals or groups attempting to bring the game into disrepute.”
