By Emmanuel Chinedu in Umuahia

Abia Warriors made a huge return to winning ways in the Nigeria Premier Football League following their elimination in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup preliminaries.

The Umuchineke Boys, as they are fondly called, returned back home all focused on getting the maximum points in front of their home supporters at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

Former Enyimba FC forward, Emeka Obioma scored with a header to put the hosts 1-0 ahead, in the 29th minute, after the Remo Stars’ defenders failed to clear out the ball from their back lines. They went into the half time break with a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Abia Warriors continued showing clear dominance in the game, which resulted in the home side getting a penalty, after Abia Warriors’ forward, Suraj Lawal was brought down inside the box. Sunday Megwo converted the spot kick to double the lead for the home side, in the 60th minutes, as the Umuahia-based side secured a comfortable 2-0 win over the reigning league champions in the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) rescheduled matchday 5 fixtures in Umuahia.
