Jibril Saidu Ojih has been elected as the new President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN).
Ojih, who is the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Handball Association and is the North-Central Zonal Representative on the HFN board, defeated Mr. John Oris, who represents the South-South Zone in HFN board by 9-5 votes in the presidential election. The election was conducted by the National Sports Commission on Saturday at the Package B, Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
In the HFN Vice Presidential election, Sylvester Ikhumode defeated Dr. (Mrs) Toyin Aluko 9-5 votes.
Earlier on, Gbenga Arole defeated Mr. Osawe 5-1 to emerge as the South-West Zonal Representative on the board following the postponement of the election weeks ago by the National Sports Commission.
The outgoing President of the Federation Mr. Samuel Ocheho has congratulated Ojih as the new President.
Ocheho said that Ojih has been one of the pillars that have contributed immensely to the growth of Handball in Nigeria and is a worthy partner in their quest to elevate the sport from its comatose state to the beloved sport that made history in the past years.
“I warmly congratulate Mr. Jibril Saidu Ojih, FNIQS, on his well-deserved election as the new President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN).
“Mr. Ojih has been one of the strong pillars behind the steady progress of handball in our country. His commitment, passion, and contributions to the game have been invaluable, and I am confident that under his leadership, handball in Nigeria will continue to grow in strength and stature.
“It has been an honour to serve the Federation and work alongside individuals like Ojih who share a deep love for the sport. I have no doubt that his tenure will build on our collective achievements and take Nigerian handball to even greater heights.
“I wish him and his new board the very best as they steer the affairs of the Federation towards sustained excellence and success.” Ocheho said
Ocheho also thanked the entire Nigeria Handball Family for the huge support all these years.
