Newly appointed Technical Advisor of Abia Comets Football Club of Umuahia, Dipreye Teiboewi, has set sights on securing the promotion ticket to Nigeria’s top-flight division.
Speaking with Extrasportnigeria.com, ahead of the team’s first league encounter in the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League against Smart City, the tactician stated that his team was ready for the herculean task ahead.
The former Bayelsa United coach expressed optimism that the club will actualise its dream noting that they have embarked on adequate preparations and recruited quality players into their ranks.
He said, “We started preparations about three months ago. Our mission this year is for Abia Comets to go to the premier league (NPFL) and that is what everybody is looking forward to achieve at the end of the season.
“We believe that our expectations should be outright victory in our first two games which happens to be in our home. We will capitalise on the trainings and friendly matches we have played – the experiences we have gotten from that and the quality of players we have got in the team. We will be able to gather those six points which will put us in the driving seat for the league.
“I call them competition winners and everybody is talking about these two games and I know that if we win these two games, it will put us on the driving seat and give us good leverage to win the group.”
The gaffer declared the readiness of his side to pick up the maximum points against Smart City saying that “psychologically, we are prepared for this match and all things being equal, we will come out victorious.”
Abia Comets will confront Lagos-based side, Smart City in her opening game of the campaign on Saturday, November 15 2025, at the Enyimba Stadium, Aba.
