Missing the World Cup hurts badly, says Super Eagles striker Akor Adams

Super Eagles attacker, Akor Adams, has expressed deep sadness following Nigeria’s painful elimination from the 2026 World Cup billed for the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Akor is pained that the team could not present to Nigerians something to ease their pains during these difficult times.

The Super Eagles lost out of the World Cup after a 4-3 penalty shootout defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the African playoff final on Sunday night in Rabat, Morocco. The match ended 1-1 after extra time, forcing a penalty shootout.

Adams was the substitute for injured Victor Osimhen at halftime. He was also one of the three Nigerian players who converted their penalties. The other two are Chidera Ejuke and Bruno Onyemaechi.

The match had started brightly for the Super Eagles, with Frank Onyeka opening the scoring in the third minute with a deflected effort. But the lead did not last for long as Congo levelled up in the 32nd minute through Meschack Elia, who capitalised on a swift counter-attack following an Alex Iwobi turnover in midfield.

With both sides unable to find a winner over 120 tense minutes, penalties became the decider.

Adams shared his emotions via his social media, “As a Nigerian, nothing hurts more than missing out on what could bring the most joy to my people amidst all happening in our dear country.”

Adams, who is one of the new comers to the Super Eagles teamscored against Lesotho and Gabon during the World Cup qualifiers.
