Abia Comets Football Club returned to winning ways after a 3-1 victory over Edel FC, on Saturday, at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
The Umuahia-based side moved top spot in the Southern Conference A Standings in the ongoing 2025/26 Nigeria National League season.
Comets, who came into the game, on the back of a 1-0 away defeat to Crown FC, in Ogbomoso, last weekend, made the breakthrough inside three minutes, when Maduka Okechukwu headed home a quality cross by Victor Udunkwo.
Prior to the end of the first half proceedings, Obi Emmanuel got the leveller for the visitors.
The duo of Poweidi Morris and Julius Godknows were introduced by Comets’ Technical Adviser, Dipreye Teiboewi to bring a different style in the game and accentuate proceedings in the final third.
The substitutions paid off in the 55th minute when Godknows restored Comets’ lead after he slotted home a delightful finish off Okechukwu Chukwu’s brilliant pass.
Another second half substitute, Morris extended the lead off a rebound after Edel defenders failed to clear the danger from Udunkwo’s dipping free kick.
After the blast of the full-time whistle, the Comets comfortably secured the 3-1 win and moved top spot in Southern Conference on seven points after four games.
Up next for Abia Comets, will be an away trip to Abeokuta this mid-week, to take on Gateway, on Wednesday, in a Southern Conference A Matchday 5 encounter.
