TikTok has temporarily restricted late-night hours access to its LIVE feature for users in Nigeria. TikTok has issued an in-app notice to creators as part of what it described as an ongoing safety checks on the platform and its community.
The notice came on for Nigeria on Sunday night via the platform with the message, “We’re temporarily limiting LIVE late at night in Nigeria as part of our investigation to ensure our platform remains safe and our community stays protected.”
The restriction also prevents creators from viewing LIVE broadcasts from other countries where TikTok services are available.
It was gathered that only creators with at least 1,000 followers, the minimum requirement to host a LIVE session, received the notification.
LIVE access was restored by Monday morning. Monday night and the days after will give a clearer picture of how long the ban will last and the nature it will take.
Night-time hours are typically peak periods for Nigerian streamers. The development comes weeks after TikTok released updated safety statistics for West Africa.
TikTok available records states that 49,512 LIVE sessions were banned in Nigeria within the second quarter of 2025.
TikTok also reported removing 3,780,426 videos in Nigeria between April and June 2025 for breaching Community Guidelines, with 98.7% taken down before being viewed and 91.9% removed within 24 hours.
