AFCON 2025: Super Eagles beat Tunisia, jump into Round of 16

Nigeria’s Super Eagles grabbed the knockout stage ticket of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco with a dramatic 3–2 victory over Tunisia on Saturday night, Extrasportnigeria.com reports.

The Super Eagles put a huge pressure on the North Africans, which created several scoring opportunities, even as Nigeria’s goalkeeper Nwabali remained idle at the other end of the field.

And then the goal late in the first half. Ademola Lookman made a diagonal cross from the left side of the edge of the Tunisian box, and Victor Osimhen rose high to head home from close range, giving Nigeria a deserved 1–0 lead before the break.

Momentum stayed firmly with Nigeria at the start of the second half.

Five minutes after the restart, Wilfred Ndidi doubled the advantage with a powerful header from a corner kick. Tunisia struggled to cope with the tempo as Nigeria continued to press with confidence and composure.

The Super Eagles extended their lead to 3–0 in the 67th minute through Lookman. At that stage, Nigeria appeared firmly in control of the contest.

Tunisia, however, mounted a late response in the last quarter of the match. In the 74th minute, Montassar Talbi headed in from a free kick to reduce the deficit to 3–1. Momentum swung at this point as the Tunisian put in very serious work in search of another goal and a possible equalizer.

Sustained pressure followed, and the Tunisians were awarded a penalty.

Ali Abdi converted confidently in the 87th minute, bringing the score to 3–2 and setting up a tense finale.

The Super Eagles dealt with the added time and steady pressure from Tunisia until the final whistle.

Nigeria’s next fixture is against Uganda, scheduled for Tuesday, December 30.
