Cameroon booked their spot in the AFCON 2025 quarterfinals with a 2–1 win over South Africa in the second match of the night.
Christopher Tchamadeu opened the scoring in the 34th minute, and Kofane doubled the lead with a header just after the break. South Africa fought back late, with Evidence Makgopa pulling one back in the 88th minute, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Indomitable Lions.
That result sets up an exciting quarterfinal between Morocco and Cameroon on Friday, January 9, at 20:00 in Rabat. The Atlas Lions will look to continue their strong run on home soil, but history reminds fans that Cameroon has never lost to Morocco in an AFCON match, with two wins and one draw. Notably, Cameroon also defeated Morocco in the 1988 semi-finals, hosted in Morocco, before going on to lift the trophy.
Despite the historical record, Moroccan fans remain hopeful, buoyed by the team’s form and the passion of the home crowd. Fans can expect a tense match where the Atlas Lions want to make history and secure a place in the semifinals of AFCON 2025.
