Ikorodu school classroom collapses, Lagos Government explains

The Lagos State Government has expressed deep concern about the collapse of a classroom block at Odokekere High School in Ikorodu. The Government officials explained to pupils, parents, and the general public that no life was lost in the incident.

The government, through the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools, described the development as unfortunate.

Reports from the initial findings revealed that the affected block had already been marked for demolition under an ongoing plan to replace old structures with more durable buildings to meet the school’s increasing enrolment before the incident.

The statement reads, “The classroom block had earlier been identified and marked for demolition as part of efforts to construct a befitting structure that can adequately cater for the large student population.”

It was confirmed that there was no casualty due to the incident.

“We wish to clearly state that no casualty was recorded in the building collapse, and all students are in good condition,” the statement added.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is said to have directed that the pupils affected by the incident be immediately relocated to neighbouring schools to ensure that teaching and learning activities continue without interruption.
