Wikki Tourists head coach, Abdu Maikaba, has resigned from his position following the club’s dramatic 4–4 home draw with Katsina United on Monday morning, in a Matchday 25 clash of the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Maikaba cited two major reasons for his decision in a resignation letter submitted to the Chairman of Wikki Tourists. The first was disunity among stakeholders, while the second was concerns over his personal safety, revealing that he had been subjected to physical threats and threats on social media platforms. He stated that, after consultations with his family, he decided to step aside.
Maikaba joined Wikki Tourists from Kano Pillars and guided the Bauchi-based side to promotion from the Nigeria National League (NNL) to the NPFL this season. However, with results no longer going their way, he departs with the club sitting 15th on the NPFL table, having earned 29 points from 25 matches (W6, D11, L8).
Wikki Tourists have struggled for form in recent weeks, recording just one win in their last 11 matches, a run that has seen pressure pile up both on and off the pitch.
With Maikaba now out of the dugout, attention turns to who will take the reins as Wikki Tourists look to steady the ship and avoid being dragged further into the relegation battle.
Wikki Tourists will be on a road trip to Enugu this weekend to take on Rangers in an NPFL Matchday 26 encounter at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
