Award-winning singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first African female artist to have seven entries on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Her song “What You Need” debuted at 93, tying her with Burna Boy and South African group Seether for the most Billboard Hot 100 entries among African artists.
Tems’ achievement is particularly notable given her recent success.
In 2022, she made history as the first African artist to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with her collaborative hit “Wait for U,” featuring Future and Drake.
Tems is poised to break the tie with Burna Boy and Seether soon, as J. Cole’s ‘Bunce Road Blues’ featuring her and Future is bound to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart next week.
