The Lagos State Government on Sunday said it had ordered a full investigation into an incident involving an ambulance near the finishing line of the 11th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
The vehicle, deployed for the marathon’s official medical emergency response, was conveying runners who earlier required medical attention when it knocked down a female non-athlete within the event arena.
Officials immediately alerted the ambulance crew to stop as emergency responders swiftly attended to the woman, administered first aid, and moved her to a public health facility for further evaluation.
Reports from the scene and video evidence confirmed that she sustained bruises and complained of chest pain, but was stabilised at the scene, with her vital signs confirmed stable.
The Lagos Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, said the woman is responding positively to treatment and remains under close medical supervision in a statement released on Sunday following the incident on Saturday.
Omotoso added that the Ministry of Health and the Lagos State Sports Commission are closely monitoring the situation, noting that senior government officials have visited the hospital.
