Yahaya’s late strike secures Abia Comets’ 2-1 win over Crown FC

By Emmanuel Chinedu

Abia Comets showed a lot of resilience in the second half to secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Crown FC in a Southern Conference A Matchday 16 encounter, on Saturday, at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.

The hosts didn’t start the game on a good note as the halftime break ended in a goalless draw.

In the second half, Abia Comets started to show clear determination to change the game’s momentum, when the duo of Maduka Okechukwu and Chinaza Miracle came on and brought a different fashion in the game.

In the 65th minute, Comets took the lead after Usman Garba delivered a through ball inside the opponents’ box that was slotted into the net by a Crown defender before they levelled it 1-1 in the 75th minute.

60 seconds later, Comets restored the lead 2-1 through a delightful finish by left-back Yahaya Dauda to secure the maximum points in a nervy encounter.

Comets have now bounced back to winning ways following the victory over the Ogbomoso-based side.

Usman Garba was named SportLightHub man of the match following his brilliant second-half performance.

Speaking shortly after the game, Assistant coach Emmanuel Nelson praised his team for their resilience and determination to come from behind to secure the maximum points.

He said, “I’m really proud of the players’ performance, which played a huge role in securing the maximum points because it was a difficult game against Crown FC. It is a huge three points for us.”

Up next for the Comets is an away trip to Ikenne to take on Beyond Limits FA in a Southern Conference A Matchday 17 encounter next weekend.
