The Nigeria Premier Football League has approved the transfer of Plateau United’s remaining home fixtures to an alternative venue for the rest of the season, citing security concerns. The match against Ikorodu City will now be held in Lafia on Easter Monday.
Chairman of the NPFL, Gbenga Elegbeleye, said the decision was taken to safeguard players, officials, and traveling teams amid ongoing security challenges in Plateau State.
He said the move became necessary as the league enters a crucial stage where results carry significant weight. He emphasized that beyond competition, the welfare and safety of all participants remain a top priority.
Elegbeleye said, “The board had to act as we approach the final stretch of the season. While every match is important, we are equally concerned about the safety of teams. We want matches played in a conducive environment that allows players to perform at their best, while we hope for a return to normalcy in Plateau State.”
A very serious armed attack on the residents of the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos on Palm Sunday left more than 26 persons dead, ranging from children to men and women. Nobody has been arrested one week after the incident that left the whole country devastated.
Plateau United currently sit ninth in the league table.
