Anakwe strike secures Remo Stars’ 1-0 win over 3SC

●Kano Pillars smash Bendel Insurance 4-0

By Emmanuel Chinedu

Samuel Anakwe scored the decisive goal as Remo Stars secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Shooting Stars on Sunday, in a South-West derby clash at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.

The defending champions came into the game needing to secure a win to boost their hopes of survival from relegation after securing a valuable away point in a 1-1 draw with El-Kanemi Warriors last weekend in Maiduguri.

Anakwe scored the valuable goal for the Sky-blue Stars in the 49th minute to secure the maximum points over their South-West rivals. The match was an NPFL Matchday 32 encounter played in front of their home supporters in Ikenne. The win may be slim, but it has hugely boosted the Remo Stars’ hopes of staying up in the league with six games to go.

Remo Stars will be on the road next weekend, travelling to Kano for a matchday 33 encounter against Barau FC on Sunday, April 12, at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

In other centres, Kano Pillars got the biggest result of the weekend with a 4-0 win over Bendel Insurance, while Kwara United defeated El-Kanemi 3-0. The surprise result of the weekend, though, is the 1-0 away hitherto low-riding Kun Khalifat secured against Nasarawa United.
