Obioma’s goal gives Abia Warriors victory over Bayelsa Utd

Chukwuemeka Obioma scored the decisive goal as Abia Warriors secured a 1-0 win over Bayelsa United, on Monday, at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.

The match, a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 32 clash, saw the Umuchineke Boys bounce back to winning ways after a late 2-1 defeat to city rivals, Enyimba FC, last weekend in Aba.

Former NPFL top scorer, Obioma, made the difference, with his tenth league goal of the season, after he slotted home in the 56th minute to help Imama Amapakabo’s side secure the maximum points and keep their continental hopes alive with six games to go before the end of the season.

Speaking shortly after the encounter, Imama praised his players for the mentality they showed to get back to winning ways against a tough Bayelsa United side.

“Yes, it’s an important win for us because of where we are in the log. We knew before the game that we needed to win to close up the gap, but all the matter at this stage of the season is the three points,” Imama said.

“It was a difficult game for us, especially in the first half, because Bayelsa United are one of the most difficult sides in the league. But we found a way at some point in the second half and got the maximum points, which is good for us.”

Abia Warriors will be on the road this weekend, when they travel to Benin for a Matchday 33 encounter with Bendel Insurance, on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin-City.
