Atlético Madrid have announced they have reached an agreement with Serie A side Atalanta to sign Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman. The Spanish team say they need the Super Eagles attacker’s firepower in Diego Simeone’s squad as they reinforce the team for greater challenges.
The former African Footballer of the Year arrived in Madrid on Sunday, which was confirmed via a video uploaded by Atlético on X.
The top-flight club added, “The agreement is subject to passing his medical and agreeing and formalizing his contract.”
Lookman is expected to undergo his medical today, Monday.
Lookman is joining the Spanish side with a wealth of European experience. He joined Atalanta in 2022 after life at Fulham and Leicester City in the Premier League. He also featured at RB Leipzig and Everton. The attacker, who has seen his career revitalized in recent seasons, scored three goals for Nigeria at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Super Eagles defeated the Pharaohs of Egypt in the third-place game.
